Camp Illawonga is home to Beyond the Classroom and has a range of camp itineraries available for all year levels. Beyond the Classroom run Camp Illawonga, a school camp property near Swan Reach on the Murray River, approximately 2 hours from Adelaide, South Australia. Camp Illawonga has 2 main camps, a River Aquatic Adventure in terms 1 and 4, and a Mallee Eco Adventure in terms 2 and 3. Custom camps are also available. Beyond the Classroom also operate the exclusive Illawonga Outdoor EDventure, a 3-5 day journey that includes kayaking, mountain biking and a solo night in the Mallee reserve.

Set on an 1800-acre mallee scrub property with 800 metres of exclusive Murray River frontage, The camp has dorm accommodation, a camping area, a Riverbank retreat, and a range of activities onsite. The camp currently caters to 68 guests in dorm rooms plus more at multiple camping areas both in the scrub and on the riverbank. There is a dining hall, an air-conditioned games area, and a range of fun activities around the camp buildings for students to play and explore.

 

All camp users get free use of the fire pit, basketball court, maze, and projector for movies. The property has a solo camping area set in the Mallee scrub, and a range of water activities including kayaking and paddle boats, plus a boat tour to the Punyelroo Caves.

Aquatic Adventure

The River Murray Aquatic Adventure is run in terms 1 and 4. This camp is focused on fun river experiences and includes paddle boats, kayaking, Punyelroo Cave tour, swimming, raft building, team challenges, archery and more.

Mallee Adventure

The Mallee Eco Adventure camp is available in terms 2 and 3. This camp includes our amazing sculpture trail, archery, pedal carts, team building challenges, bush survival, eco activities, fun adventures and more.

Illawonga Journey

Camp Illawonga is opposite the Punyelroo Caves. The Illawonga Journey is aimed at middle school students and includes kayaking, bike riding, bushwalking, and a solo night under the dark sky reserve in swags.

Illawonga Campsite is near Swan Reach on the Murray River, approximately a two-hour drive from Adelaide.
The Illawonga property consists of the camp site, a large river frontage ideal for all sorts of water sports, and an 1800-acre mallee reserve.
